Signal System Installation – Alaska Railroad
In the spring of 2002 AR Concepts was awarded a contract by the Alaska Railroad to install a new signal system through the city of Anchorage, and north on the mainline for approximately 60 miles. The system involved the installation of cables, foundations, and all other signal equipment for 14 new or modified interlockings including 6 new power-operated passing sidings, with approach signals, and a radio-based code system. Where commercial power was not available, combination solar/wind/generator systems were installed. AR Concepts performed all pre-commissioning testing and then assisted railway personnel in final system operational tests.
The original project was awarded in May, 2002 and with the addition of two sidings to the original contract and a second contract in April, 2003, all work was still completed by the end of October, 2003.
