CPR made a corporate decision to reduce infrastructure on the main line between Thunder Bay, ON and Winnipeg, MB, a distance of over 300 miles. Condor Signal & Communications Inc. (formerly Advanced Railway Concepts Ltd.) was awarded a contact to design and install a new signal system for the line. Field construction commenced through some of the most rugged and inaccessible territory in Canada. Over the next two summers the project was completed to Winnipeg. After a hiatus of one year, the final section from Winnipeg to Portage la Prairie was completed.
